As of Nov. 26, the Mermaid Jingle Jam contest Official Rules were revised. To obtain a copy of the original rules, please send your request to themermaid@chickenofthesea.com.
Chicken of the Sea’s Mermaid Jingle Jam contest is open only to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia who are 18 and older and who are valid Mermaid Club members. If an entrant is considered a minor in his or her state of residence, parental permission must be given in order to participate. It is the responsibility of the Mermaid Club entrant to obtain such permission. Employees of Chicken of the Sea International, Feeding America (formerly named America's Second Harvest), their affiliates, subsidiaries, public relations and marketing agencies, and their immediate family members, including those living in the same household of each are not eligible. Additionally, those who, as of Aug. 1, are professional or former professional performers who have signed a recording or similar contract with a third party representing more than one individual or group, or who have had work aired or published are not eligible. Contestants who have been convicted of a felony are also prohibited from entering the contest.
Beginning on Aug. 1, go to www.mermaidjinglejam.com, www.twiceaweekforbetterhealth.com or www.chickenofthesea.com, and follow on-screen instructions to complete the entry form, enter your zip code to be assigned an affiliated food bank, and upload and submit your video per the Video Submission Guidelines. All entries must be received by Nov. 7. Contestants are welcome to submit more than one entry (up to three), but should keep in mind each video must be different and will require a separate entry form. Group entries are allowed, and require only one person be registered as an official entrant, referred to as the Team Captain. If entering as a group, the Team Captain must be a registered Mermaid Club member and meet all eligibility requirements, and will be held responsible for replying to all Sponsor correspondence and, if necessary, returning required paperwork and/or requests. Group entries may include participants under the age of 18, but require parental permission to participate. It is the responsibility of the Mermaid Club entrant to obtain such permission. Only one video per contestant will be eligible for inclusion in the contest finals. All entries must be complete and valid, and abide by the Official Rules to be considered for the finals or as the grand-prize winner(s). Chicken of the Sea reserves the right to make decisions affecting final judgment and eligibility at all rounds of the contest. The first 100 valid and complete entrants will be eligible to win an iPod® shuffle and the next 50 entrants will be eligible to win a $10 iTunes® Gift Card (see prizes); limit one winner per entry.
All videos must constitute a recorded video performance and provide a
new verse to the original Chicken of the Sea jingle that creatively
incorporates provided Key Themes. Key Themes should not be
repeated verbatim – it’s the concepts that count.
Using the original Chicken of the Sea jingle melody is not required,
but entrants must incorporate the original jingle lyrics in each video entry.
Lyrics are as follows: “Ask any
mermaid you happen to see, what’s the best tuna? Chicken of the Sea!”
Key Themes include:
Up to four people can be seen and/or heard in each video entry. If entering as a solo entry, only one contestant is allowed in the video; if entering as a group, only the four contestants who are registered under his or her Team Captain are allowed in the video. Vocal performances (singing and musical accompaniment) can be conducted live or be pre-recorded. Entries must be at least 30 seconds and no more than 90 seconds; videos that exceed or do not meet time requirements will not be judged. Submissions also require a resolution of 360x240, with a frame rate setting of at least 23 fps. Once submitted, video entries will not be accessible for further additions or editing. Entries become the sole property of Chicken of the Sea and will not be returned. Failure to comply with Official Rules and Requirements will result in disqualification.
All eligible entries will be assigned to the Feeding America food bank location that is closest to the entry's zip code. If there is more than one food bank that is equidistant to the entry zip code, the entrant must select a food bank.
